How to Differentiate Everyday Dresses from Occasion Dresses

December 2nd 2011 -

Sometimes it can be difficult to determine whether one dress in your closet is an everyday dress and the next one is an occasion dress. “Your best Sunday Dress” is one of the best adages that you can use to assist you to decide which dresses are your everyday dresses and which are your occasion dresses. This particular adage encompasses the idea that some garments are suitable for going to work, heading to school, or going out to run errands in and that others are used for special occasions.
When the adage was put into place, one of the only times people got dressed up, as it were, was on Sundays to head to church and look your best. Nowadays, we have umpteen different reasons why we may wish to dress up – anniversary celebrations, weddings, an evening out, charity events, dates, or any other activity that requires a higher standard of clothing to be worn on our bodies. You’re not going to want to wear the dress you put on for shopping out to a wedding, and conversely, you’re not going to want to wear an evening gown to the shops when you’re out completing daily errands such as shopping for food or for filling up the car with petrol.
There is a time and a place for each type of outfit. You’ll want to put on that skimpy little black dress to impress your date or to head out to the clubs, and while this can be considered an item from your collection of occasion dresses, it may not be. If you often go out with your partner or clubbing, then this could very well be considered an everyday dress for you. If, however, you rarely do either of these things, then the dress you’re considering will be an occasion dress for you.
Maybe you’re fond of ballroom dancing and you own many appropriate gowns for just this purpose. A ballroom gown, if one of your interests is such a thing, is not going to be considered a dress for any special occasion. It is merely a regular item for you. If, however, you rarely engage in such activities, any ballroom gown is going to be deemed an occasion dress. It may be that you are involved with historical re-enactments so wearing historical garb in the way of corseted and girdled dresses is a normal thing for you. These would not be considered occasion dresses. If, however, you would rarely think about donning such an outfit, it is going to certainly be an occasion dress.
The only style of dresses that are available today that could be considered solely an occasion dress is the wedding dress. Whether you’ve never been married or you’ve been through the ceremony of matrimony several times already, there is no other appropriate venue for you to wear a wedding dress. The easiest way to differentiate regular dresses from occasion dresses is to determine whether or not you always wear a certain style of dress or if you rarely do. If the donning of any particular style of dress, or a dress in general, is abnormal to your lifestyle, then it will be an occasion dress.
